## About this wine

Bodega Otronia is situated in the extreme south of Argentine Patagonia, at the 45th parallel south in Sarmiento, Chubut Province. This location represents one of the southernmost commercial vineyards on Earth. The name '45 Rugientes' (45 Roaring) pays homage to the fierce, howling winds characteristic of the 45th parallel, which define the region's extreme climate. These relentless winds naturally protect the vines from disease and keep yields low, forcing the grapes to develop thick skins that concentrate flavors. The estate's soils are ancient lake beds composed of clay, alluvial pebbles, and sand, giving the wines a distinct mineral character.

## Interesting facts

- Named after the fierce winds of the 45th parallel south, which can reach speeds of over 100 km/h.
- Otronia is one of the southernmost commercial wineries in the world, redefining the limits of extreme viticulture.
- The grapes develop unusually thick skins to protect themselves from the relentless Patagonian winds.

## Food pairing

The high natural acidity and delicate, fine-grained tannins of this cool-climate Pinot Noir make it exceptionally versatile. It pairs beautifully with rich, fatty fish like salmon, as well as game birds and earthy dishes featuring mushrooms or truffles, which complement the wine's subtle forest floor and mineral undertones.

## Wine making process

The Pinot Noir grapes are hand-harvested from organically certified blocks of the estate vineyard. Fermentation takes place in concrete vats using native yeasts to preserve the purity of the cool-climate fruit. The wine is then aged for 18 to 20 months in untoasted French oak foudres of 2,500 to 5,000 liters. This minimal oak influence allows the delicate red fruit, high natural acidity, and intense mineral expression of the Chubut terroir to remain at the forefront.
