## About this wine

The Almeida Garrett family traces its lineage in Beira Interior to the early 19th century, descending from the famous Portuguese Romantic writer Viscount Almeida Garrett. Located on the high-elevation granitic slopes of the Serra da Estrela mountain range, the estate has produced wines for over a century, winning early acclaim at the 1889 Paris Universal Exposition. Today, winemaker Manuel Almeida Garrett crafted this bottle to highlight low-intervention mountain viticulture and historical heritage.

## Interesting facts

- The estate family directly descends from famed 19th-century Portuguese Romantic poet Viscount Almeida Garrett.
- Made entirely from Touriga Franca, a red grape variety most famous for its role in premium Port wines.
- The winery earned early international prestige over a century ago at the 1889 Paris Universal Exposition.

## Food pairing

The high mountain acidity and delicate natural effervescence cut effortlessly through raw fish and light seafood oils, while complementing subtle citrus elements and balancing gentle street-food spices without overwhelming delicate textures.

## Wine making process

Crafted via the Ancestral Method using 30-year-old Touriga Franca vines harvested manually in 15 kg crates. Grapes undergo gentle crushing followed by spontaneous fermentation with wild indigenous yeasts. Before fermentation finishes, the wine is bottled under crown cap to complete secondary fermentation inside the bottle, capturing natural carbon dioxide. The wine is left unfiltered and without disgorgement, preserving its natural lees.
