## About this wine

Aphros is the brainchild of Vasco Croft, a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture in Portugal's Vinho Verde region. Located in the Lima sub-region, the estate focuses on capturing the pure, vibrant essence of local grape varieties. This Loureiro showcases the unique terroir of the granite-rich soils and cool Atlantic influence, reflecting Croft's holistic philosophy of working in harmony with nature.

## Interesting facts

- Founder Vasco Croft was an architect and follower of Rudolf Steiner's anthroposophy before turning to winemaking.
- The estate has been certified biodynamic by Demeter since 2006, making it a pioneer in Portugal.
- Loureiro translates to 'laurel' due to the striking resemblance of its aroma to bay laurel leaves.

## Food pairing

The high acidity and vibrant citrus and floral notes of Loureiro cut beautifully through light fats and complement delicate seafood. Its mineral drive pairs perfectly with saline, briny dishes like shellfish, while its light body won't overwhelm fresh vegetables or young cheeses.

## Wine making process

The grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the fresh, primary fruit characteristics of the Loureiro grape. The wine undergoes minimal intervention, aging on its fine lees before bottling, with only a light filtration and minimal sulfur added.
