## About this wine

Xavier Vignon Arcane La Papesse 2016 is a red wine from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in France's Southern Rhône Valley. Crafted by oenologist Xavier Vignon, this 100% Grenache wine is part of his 'Arcane' series, which delves into unique vinification and aging methods. The 'La Papesse' designation is inspired by tarot symbolism. The grapes are sourced from very old vines, often grown in cooler terroirs within the appellation, on soils composed of rolled pebbles and clay. Xavier Vignon is known for his expertise in blending and his access to exceptional vineyard sites.

## Wine making process

The production of Xavier Vignon Arcane La Papesse 2016 involves rigorous grape sorting followed by separate vinification in conical truncated vats, concrete vats, and stainless steel vats. Malolactic fermentation takes place in early November. The wine is then aged in a variety of vessels, including amphorae, barrels, concrete vats, demi-muids, and stainless steel. A notable technique employed is the 'Vinarium®' method, where a portion of the wine is aged in small 200L barrels immersed in wine over a multi-year period. Harvests are conducted manually.
