## About this wine

Barolo Castelletto from Mauro Veglio is a 100% Nebbiolo wine from the Barolo DOCG in Piedmont, Italy, specifically from the Monforte d'Alba sub-region. The Castelletto vineyard, an early recognized cru, is situated at 400m altitude with a southeast-facing position and a microclimate influenced by sandstone and good ventilation. Mauro Veglio, whose family has a long history in winemaking, is recognized for being among the first producers to feature the Castelletto vineyard name on his labels, even before its official Menzione Geografica Aggiuntiva (MGA) recognition. The winery practices organic farming, having avoided chemical herbicides for over two decades.

## Interesting facts

- Castelletto was among the first recognized crus in Barolo.
- Mauro Veglio championed the Castelletto vineyard name on labels early on.
- The vineyard benefits from a high proportion of sandstone.
- The wine is bottled without fining or filtration.

## Food pairing

The wine's full body and firm tannins are well-suited to rich, protein-heavy dishes, where the tannins can soften and integrate with the meat's fat and protein. The bright acidity provides a refreshing counterpoint to hearty flavors, preventing the palate from feeling overwhelmed.

## Wine making process

Mauro Veglio's Barolo Castelletto 2019 is produced from 100% Nebbiolo grapes. The winemaking process involves maceration on the skins in stainless steel tanks for 12-25 days at controlled temperatures, followed by alcoholic fermentation for approximately 20 days in stainless steel. Malolactic fermentation is also conducted at a controlled temperature. The wine is then aged for 24 months in oak barrels, with a composition of 30% new and 70% used barrels. Finally, the wine is bottled without fining or filtration. The winery has been committed to organic farming practices for over two decades, avoiding chemical herbicides and embracing natural techniques.
