## About this wine

Roccheviberti is a boutique family-run estate located in Castiglione Falletto, one of the eleven communes of the Barolo DOCG. Managed by Claudio Viberti, the winery focuses on traditional winemaking practices that highlight the unique terroir of their estate vineyards. The 'Barolo del Comune di Castiglione Falletto, Vecchie Viti' is crafted from old vines (vecchie viti) planted in the prestigious soils of Castiglione Falletto, known for producing Barolos that strike a perfect balance between the elegance of La Morra and the power of Serralunga d'Alba.

## Interesting facts

- Vecchie Viti translates to 'old vines,' which yield lower quantities of grapes but with significantly higher concentration and complexity.
- Castiglione Falletto sits in the center of the Barolo zone, combining the sandy-clay soils of the west with the limestone-marl of the east.
- The Viberti family has been cultivating vines in the Rocche di Castiglione area for generations, maintaining a highly traditional style.

## Food pairing

The high acidity and powerful, structured tannins of Nebbiolo require rich, fatty, and protein-dense dishes to soften the wine's grip. Classic Piedmontese pairings like rich meat ragus, game, and dishes featuring butter and truffles work beautifully, as the wine's acidity cuts through the fat while the proteins bind with the tannins.

## Wine making process

The grapes are hand-harvested from old vines. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with extended maceration on the skins to extract structure, color, and complex phenolics. The wine is then aged traditionally in large Slavonian oak casks (botti) for at least 24 to 30 months, followed by additional refinement in the bottle before release. This minimal-intervention approach ensures the pure expression of Nebbiolo and the Castiglione Falletto terroir.
