## About this wine

The Crissante Alessandria Barolo Galina 2017 is a 100% Nebbiolo wine from the Barolo DOCG appellation in Piedmont, Italy, specifically from the Galina cru in La Morra. The Crissante Alessandria estate, a family-run business since 1958, is now managed by the third generation. The Galina cru is situated south of La Morra Hill, characterized by limestone soil with fine sand. The vineyard comprises vines planted in different years, including some dating back to 1922, and covers approximately 0.8 hectares at an altitude of 280-300 meters with a south-facing exposure. The Galina cru has been bottled separately since 2007. The 2017 vintage was a warm and dry year in Piedmont.

## Interesting facts

- Galina cru vines range from 1922 to 2014, offering a spectrum of Nebbiolo expression.
- The estate was founded in 1958, but the Galina cru has been bottled separately only since 2007.
- Production is limited to around 5,500 bottles per vintage.
- James Suckling awarded this vintage a notable 95 points.

## Food pairing

The wine's full body and firm tannins are well-suited to rich, protein-heavy dishes, where they can interact with and soften the meat's fats and proteins. The wine's inherent complexity and potential for earthy notes make it a natural partner for game, truffles, and aged cheeses.

## Wine making process

The Crissante Alessandria Barolo Galina 2017 is produced from 100% Nebbiolo grapes. Hand-harvested, the grapes undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 2-4 weeks at 26-28°C, utilizing indigenous yeasts and manual punch-downs. The wine is then aged for approximately 24 months in a combination of French oak barriques, tonneaux, and large Slavonian oak casks. Post-aging, it undergoes clarification and fining in the bottle, with some vintages receiving additional bottle aging. Production volumes are around 5,500 bottles.
