## About this wine

Fontanafredda Barolo La Rosa 2013 is a 100% Nebbiolo wine from the Barolo DOCG in Piedmont, Italy. The wine originates from the Vigna La Rosa vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba, characterized by calcareous marl and clay soils and a south-south-west exposure. The estate, Fontanafredda, has a historical foundation dating back to 1858 and is recognized for its commitment to sustainable viticulture. The name 'La Rosa' pays homage to Rosa Vercellana, for whom the estate was originally established.

## Interesting facts

- Named 'La Rosa' in honor of Rosa Vercellana, the mistress of King Victor Emmanuel II.
- Fontanafredda is one of Italy's largest organic wine estates.
- The estate was recognized as 'European Winery of the Year' by Wine Enthusiast in 2017.
- The Vigna La Rosa vineyard is situated directly behind the estate's main buildings.

## Food pairing

The wine's full body, high acidity, and firm tannins are well-suited to rich, protein-heavy dishes. The tannins bind with proteins in the meat, softening the wine and making the food taste richer. The acidity cuts through the richness of fatty dishes, cleansing the palate.

## Wine making process

Fontanafredda Barolo La Rosa 2013 is produced from 100% Nebbiolo grapes. The grapes are hand-harvested in early October. Vinification involves traditional fermentation in stainless steel tanks with a floating cap for 12-15 days at a controlled temperature of 30-31°C. The wine is then aged for approximately 12 months in Allier oak barriques, followed by an additional year in large oak casks (2,000-3,000 liters). The estate is committed to sustainable practices, with 120 hectares of organically certified vineyards.
