## About this wine

The Barolo Le Coste Riserva Giacomo Grimaldi 2016 is a distinguished wine from the Barolo DOCG in Piedmont, Italy. Produced by the Grimaldi family, whose winemaking history dates back to 1930, this Riserva is exclusively sourced from the family's own vineyards. The 'Le Coste' vineyard, a single hectare planted with approximately 70-year-old Nebbiolo vines, is the cornerstone of this particular bottling. The wine's Riserva designation indicates it is made only in exceptional years, highlighting its special nature. The Grimaldi estate encompasses 18 hectares across renowned areas, emphasizing a commitment to expressing the unique terroir of the Langhe region through meticulous vineyard management and winemaking.

## Interesting facts

- Le Coste vineyard is one of the oldest crus mentioned on Barolo maps.
- Only 1,500 bottles of this Riserva are produced.
- The winery has been family-owned since 1930.
- Vineyards span prestigious areas like Barolo, Novello, and Monforte d'Alba.

## Food pairing

The wine's full body and high tannins are well-suited to rich, protein-heavy dishes, where the tannins can bind with the meat's proteins, softening both. Its complexity and potential for earthy notes make it a natural partner for game, mushrooms, and truffles.

## Wine making process

The Barolo Le Coste Riserva undergoes a 15-day maceration in temperature-controlled steel vats. Following this, malolactic fermentation occurs in barrique. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French barriques, with 25% being new. This is followed by 24 months in cask, 8 months in steel tanks, and a final 20 months of bottle aging. Production is limited, with approximately 1,500 bottles of 0.75L produced, alongside magnums.
