## About this wine

Castello di Magione is a historic estate located in the Umbria region of Italy, near Lake Trasimeno. The castle was originally constructed in 1171 as a pilgrim hospital along the Via Francigena. Today, the estate is owned by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. The Belfiore Rosato highlights the Gamay del Trasimeno variety, a distinct local clone of Grenache cultivated on hillside vineyards surrounding the lake.

## Interesting facts

- The castle was built in 1171 as a shelter for pilgrims traveling to Rome and Jerusalem.
- In 1502, the castle hosted the famous Conspiracy of Magione against Cesare Borgia, recorded by Machiavelli.
- Gamay del Trasimeno is actually a unique local clone of Grenache adapted to the Lake Trasimeno microclimate.

## Food pairing

The crisp acidity and light-to-medium body of this rosé make it an ideal partner for delicate seafood and light appetizers. High acidity cuts through subtle oils in fish without overwhelming delicate culinary flavors.

## Wine making process

The grapes are hand-harvested early to preserve natural acidity and fresh aromatic profile. Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes undergo a brief skin maceration to achieve a delicate pale pink hue before soft pressing. Fermentation takes place under controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks. The wine ages for three months on fine lees in stainless steel to build subtle body and texture before bottling.
