## About this wine

Montesecondo is a renowned biodynamic estate located in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, within the northern hills of Tuscany's Chianti Classico region. Producer Silvio Messana, who previously lived in North Africa and worked in New York as a jazz musician and composer, returned to his family's farm to pioneer natural, low-intervention winemaking. The estate's Trebbiano bottlings elevate a grape variety historically viewed as a simple workhorse into a textured, deeply expressive white wine rooted in Tuscan identity.

## Interesting facts

- Winemaker Silvio Messana worked as a professional jazz musician and composer in New York before returning to Tuscany.
- The Arabic word 'Tïn' used on Montesecondo labels means clay, honoring Silvio Messana's childhood years in Tunisia.
- Montesecondo uses traditional marcottage to propagate old estate Trebbiano vines, some of which are up to 50 years old.

## Food pairing

The bright acidity and subtle skin-contact structure of this natural Trebbiano allow it to slice through rich pork and aged sheep's milk cheeses, while harmonizing naturally with herb-forward sauces and rustic Tuscan vegetable dishes.

## Wine making process

Grapes are organically and biodynamically farmed and harvested by hand. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with native yeasts in concrete tanks or unlined clay amphorae (tinajas) without temperature control or added sulfur during maceration. Depending on the specific bottling, skin contact ranges from a few days to up to eight months. The wine ages in cement or clay vessels with zero oak contact, and is bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur additions.
