## About this wine

Tenuta Vallocaia was acquired in 1983 by Swiss entrepreneur Rudi Bindella, whose family wine trade business dates back to 1909. Situated in the historical sub-zones of Argiano and Cervognano near Montepulciano, the estate emphasizes low environmental impact and traditional Tuscan viticulture. The 2022 growing season benefited from warm conditions that allowed native grapes to achieve ideal maturity while retaining the authentic character of the region.

## Interesting facts

- Tenuta Vallocaia was acquired in 1983 by Rudi Bindella, carrying on a family wine legacy originating in 1909.
- The 2022 vintage earned a prestigious 5-star official rating from the Montepulciano wine consortium.
- The local clone of Sangiovese cultivated in Montepulciano is traditionally known as Prugnolo Gentile.

## Food pairing

The structured tannins and vivid acidity of Sangiovese-based red wines require rich protein and savory fats to soften the mouthfeel. Traditional Tuscan meat ragùs, roasted game, and aged hard cheeses match the wine's intensity while highlighting its classic herbal and earthy sub-layers.

## Wine making process

Grapes are harvested from Vallocaia and Camparone parcels at 270 to 320 meters elevation. Fermentation takes place by variety in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 23°C to 28°C, with skin contact lasting 15 to 20 days. The wine is aged for 20 to 22 months in large oak casks (botti grandi), followed by a minimum of 6 months bottle maturation before release.
