## About this wine

Bòria represents the pinnacle of Sumarroca's Syrah vines grown in the single Garrofer plot within the Mas Coloma estate in Subirats. Founded in 1983 by Carles Sumarroca and Núria Claverol, Bodegues Sumarroca is a family-owned estate managing over 460 hectares of organic vineyards adjacent to the protected Red Natura 2000 sanctuary. Bòria was among the very first wines awarded the official D.O. Penedès 'Gran Vi de Mas' classification, recognizing single-estate wines from mature vineyards with a long record of prestige.

## Interesting facts

- Bòria was among the first red wines awarded the premier Gran Vi de Mas classification by D.O. Penedès.
- The 2020 vintage yielded a limited production run of exactly 5,000 bottles from the single Garrofer vineyard plot.
- Sumarroca vineyards border the protected Red Natura 2000 European natural ecological sanctuary.

## Food pairing

The full body, robust tannic structure, and rich Mediterranean profile of this single-vineyard Syrah require hearty, savory proteins and aged cheeses. Rich proteins soften the firm tannins while earthy condiments echo the wine's balsam and oak complexity.

## Wine making process

Cultivated on calcareous soils rich in deep gravel at 200 meters elevation using certified organic viticulture. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with an extended three-week skin maceration period. Malolactic fermentation is conducted partly in tank and partly in French oak. The wine is then aged for 14 months in French oak barrels prior to release, producing a limited run of 5,000 bottles for the 2020 vintage.
