## About this wine

The San Polo Brunello di Montalcino Vignavecchia 2017 originates from the estate's smallest and most cherished vineyard block, Vignavecchia, planted with their oldest Sangiovese vines. San Polo, under the ownership of Marilisa Allegrini and her daughters, is dedicated to organic and regenerative viticulture, focusing on soil health and biodiversity. The Montalcino region in Tuscany is the birthplace of Brunello, a wine known for its structure and longevity. The 2017 vintage was characterized by hot, dry weather, leading to concentrated fruit and a powerful expression of the Sangiovese grape from this specific terroir.

## Interesting facts

- San Polo is the first winery in Tuscany to achieve CasaClima Certification for sustainability.
- The Vignavecchia vineyard is just 2 hectares, planted between 1988 and 1990.
- San Polo has been vegan-certified since 2019.
- Limited production of only 3,300 bottles.

## Food pairing

The wine's full body and firm tannins are well-suited to rich, protein-heavy dishes, where the tannins can bind with meat proteins, softening the wine and cleansing the palate. The wine's inherent complexity and savory notes complement game and aged cheeses.

## Wine making process

The San Polo Brunello di Montalcino Vignavecchia 2017 is produced from 100% Sangiovese grapes. Fermentation occurs in large Slavonian oak vats for approximately 30 days at temperatures up to 30°C, followed by malolactic fermentation in 20 hectoliter casks. The wine is then aged for 30 months in lightly toasted 600-liter French tonneaux or 40 hectoliter casks, with a minimum of six months spent aging in bottle before release. San Polo is committed to organic and regenerative viticulture, emphasizing soil health and ecosystem resilience.
