## About this wine

Niepoort Charme is a red wine from the Douro Valley, Portugal, produced by Niepoort Vinhos. This wine is the only still red wine made at the Vale de Mendiz winery and is inspired by the elegance of Burgundy wines. It aims to showcase the purity of old vines and the unique terroir of its origin. The grapes are sourced from very old vineyards in Vale de Mendiz, situated at altitudes between 300-350 meters, grown in schist soil. The 2022 vintage was notably dry, leading to an early harvest. Niepoort Vinhos has a long family history in winemaking, dating back to 1842, with the current generation continuing their blend of tradition and modernity.

## Interesting facts

- Inspired by Burgundy's Pinot Noir elegance.
- Sole still red wine from Vale de Mendiz winery.
- Grapes from vines 70-100+ years old.
- Fermented with 100% whole clusters.

## Food pairing

The wine's refined tannins and balanced acidity complement the richness of red meats and game, while its subtle complexity can stand up to earthy flavors like mushrooms and herbs. Dishes with a touch of spice or a savory sauce are also well-matched.

## Wine making process

Niepoort Charme is produced using grapes from very old vines. The winemaking process involves fermenting 100% whole clusters in traditional stone lagares, where foot-treading is employed. Both fermentation and malolactic fermentation are completed in French oak barrels. The wine then undergoes aging for 15-18 months in French oak, with a small percentage of new oak used. Vineyard management follows natural and organic practices. The 2022 vintage was characterized by dry conditions, leading to an early harvest, which required careful management to preserve freshness.
