## About this wine

Clos de Somméré represents a dynamic partnership uniting two families. The Santé family has been farming the premium clay-limestone soils of La Roche-Vineuse in the Mâconnais region since 1848. In 2024, the fifth generation of the family joined forces with cousins Régis & Sylvain, who originally began making wine in Marseille in 2017. This collaboration brings a fresh, low-intervention energy to the historic estate, focusing on preserving the biodiversity of their west-facing slopes and the heritage of their old vines.

## Interesting facts

- The Santé family has been farming the premium clay-limestone soils of La Roche-Vineuse in the Mâconnais since 1848.
- Instead of oak, this premium Chardonnay is aged for 12 months in concrete vats to preserve its pure, saline minerality.
- The vines for this cuvée were planted around 1977, making them 47 years old at the 2024 harvest.

## Food pairing

This high-acid, mineral-driven Chardonnay pairs beautifully with seafood and poultry. The wine's vibrant acidity cuts through rich, buttery sauces, while its saline finish complements the natural brininess of shellfish. The concrete aging preserves a clean profile that doesn't clash with delicate herbs.

## Wine making process

The grapes are harvested entirely by hand from 47-year-old vines in the 'Les Noyerets' vineyard. Vinification follows a low-intervention philosophy, utilizing gentle pressing and fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine undergoes full malolactic fermentation to naturally soften its texture. It is then aged for 12 months in concrete vats (cuve béton) rather than oak, allowing the pure fruit and mineral expression of the old vines to shine. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur additions.
