## About this wine

Closerie du Pelan was established in 1984 by Régis Moro, a former French painter who returned to his roots in Saint-Cibard, Bordeaux. Situated near the renowned biodynamic estate Château Le Puy, Moro cultivated his vineyards without synthetic inputs. Despite high critical acclaim, commercial distribution remained small, resulting in vast stocks of pristine library vintages resting in the estate's cellars. In 2022, the Amoreau family of Château Le Puy acquired Closerie du Pelan, re-capsuling and releasing these mature library stocks to international markets.

## Interesting facts

- Unusual for Right Bank Bordeaux, the blend is dominated by 75% Cabernet Sauvignon.
- Founded by former painter Régis Moro, who was named Winemaker of the Year by French magazine Le Point.
- Acquired in 2022 by the Amoreau family of Château Le Puy to preserve and share its historic cellar treasures.

## Food pairing

The well-integrated tannins, natural acidity, and mature tertiary aromas of this aged Cabernet-dominant Bordeaux pair seamlessly with savory, protein-rich meats and earthy elements. Rich proteins and fats soften the fine tannins, while earthy ingredients like mushrooms align with the wine's forest floor and graphite accents.

## Wine making process

Farmed under organic and biodynamic practices, winemaking is low-intervention. Spontaneous fermentation occurs with native yeasts using traditional punch-downs (pigeage) to extract color and structure. The wine is aged in neutral oak barrels to preserve fruit purity and soil character without adding oak tannins or flavors. Bottled with minimal total sulfur (~50 mg/L) and without aggressive filtration.
