## About this wine

The E. Guigal Condrieu 2022 is a single-varietal Viognier from the Northern Rhône Valley's exclusive Condrieu appellation. The appellation itself is small, with a history stretching back to Roman times, and is dedicated solely to the Viognier grape. E. Guigal, a family-owned estate founded in 1946, has a long-standing connection to the Rhône, with three generations contributing to its winemaking legacy. The 2022 vintage experienced hot, dry weather, leading to an early harvest with smaller berries and concentrated fruit. This wine is recognized for its aromatic intensity and rich texture, characteristic of its unique origin and the producer's expertise.

## Interesting facts

- Condrieu's history as a wine region dates back to Roman times.
- Viognier is the only grape permitted in the Condrieu appellation.
- The appellation covers a mere 200-220 hectares.
- Guigal's vines in Condrieu average around 30 years of age.

## Food pairing

The wine's full body and rich texture can stand up to richer dishes. Its aromatic profile complements subtle spices and herbs, while its acidity can cut through creamy sauces and fatty proteins.

## Wine making process

The E. Guigal Condrieu 2022 is produced from 100% Viognier grapes, hand-harvested and sorted from vines averaging 30 years old. The grapes are grown on steep granite hillsides. Fermentation takes place at low temperatures, with one-third of the wine undergoing fermentation in new French oak barrels and the remaining two-thirds in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation is employed. The wine is then aged for 8 months, with the same barrel and tank proportions maintained. The appellation itself is small, covering approximately 200-220 hectares.
