## About this wine

Founded in 1947 by Nicolaus Weis, St. Urbans-Hof was named after the patron saint of winemakers. Located in Leiwen in Germany's Mosel valley, the 50-hectare estate is directed by third-generation winemaker Nik Weis and cellarmaster Kai Hausen. A longtime member of the prestigious VDP, the estate uses white labels across its portfolio to denote dry Riesling bottlings, distinguishing them from black-labeled sweet wines.

## Interesting facts

- Founder Nicolaus Weis established one of Germany's first private nurseries to preserve historical Mosel Riesling clones.
- The winery uses white labels for dry Rieslings and black labels for sweet wines across its entire range.
- Vines for this estate dry Riesling were planted between 1949 and 1953, carrying a 70-plus year heritage.

## Food pairing

The high, racy acidity and bone-dry profile of Mosel Riesling slice through fried and rich components while effortlessly cutting through mild spice and balancing delicate white proteins and fresh goat cheese.

## Wine making process

The grapes come from estate vineyards in Leiwen planted between 1949 and 1953 in alluvial and Devonian slate soils. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with 100% indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and traditional 1,000-liter neutral wooden Fuder casks. The 2021 vintage was kept on gross lees through July 2022 to enhance texture and mid-palate balance.
