## About this wine

Di Giovanna is one of western Sicily's oldest viticultural families, spanning five generations. Cultivating organic vineyards since 1997, brothers Gunther and Klaus introduced their natural wine line in 2018 to honor the low-intervention methods of their great-grandfather, Cristoforo Ciaccio. Filìa, meaning friendship in Latin, represents a pure expression of Nerello Mascalese grown on volcanic tuff soils in Contessa Entellina, far from its typical home on Mount Etna.

## Interesting facts

- While Nerello Mascalese is famous on Mt. Etna, Di Giovanna pioneered growing it in western Sicily starting in 1968.
- The name 'Filìa' translates to 'friendship' in Latin, celebrating connection and shared moments.
- This wine is bottled completely unfiltered and unfined, with zero added sulfites, yielding a raw and vibrant profile.

## Food pairing

This light-bodied, high-acid red wine behaves similarly to a heavy rosé or a light Pinot Noir. Its low tannins and bright acidity make it exceptionally versatile, pairing beautifully with fatty fish like tuna and swordfish, as well as classic Sicilian eggplant dishes. Serving it slightly chilled enhances its refreshing red fruit profile and balances the mineral undertones.

## Wine making process

Hand-harvested in mid-September, the grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine undergoes natural malolactic fermentation and is aged for six months in stainless steel. It is bottled completely unfined and unfiltered with no added sulfites, preserving its raw, natural character.
