## About this wine

Joiseph is a collaborative project founded in 2015 by three friends—Luka Zeichmann, Xandl Kagl, and Richard Artner—in the village of Jois, nestled on the slopes of the Leithagebirge in Burgenland, Austria. Operating on a micro-scale, they focus on biodynamic farming and minimal intervention in the cellar. 'Fogosch' is named after the local pike-perch of Lake Neusiedl, reflecting the wine's mineral, sleek, and precise character, which is deeply tied to the unique lakeside terroir.

## Interesting facts

- Fogosch is the local Austrian-Hungarian name for the pike-perch, a prized fish found in nearby Lake Neusiedl.
- The winery was founded in 2015 by three friends who started with just a tiny plot of vines and no cellar of their own.
- The vineyards are situated on the Leithaberg slopes, where limestone and mica schist soils impart a distinct salty minerality.

## Food pairing

The high acidity and textured, mineral profile of this natural Grüner Veltliner cut beautifully through rich, fatty dishes like pork belly or fried schnitzel, while its subtle herbal and white pepper notes complement green vegetables and fresh fish perfectly.

## Wine making process

The Grüner Veltliner grapes for Fogosch are harvested by hand from organically farmed vineyards on mica schist and limestone soils. In the cellar, the grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. The wine is aged on its fine lees in neutral oak casks and stainless steel tanks to build texture without masking the grape's natural vibrancy. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur added only at bottling.
