## About this wine

Società Agricola Garzöl is an artisanal winery located in Teglio, within Lombardy's high-altitude Valtellina region. Founded by Denis Girola and Giulio Marantelli, the estate takes its name from the local dialect word for 'bud' or 'sprout'. Combining long-standing family vineyard parcels, Garzöl practices heroic viticulture on steep Alpine terraces supported by hand-built dry-stone walls. Spanning just three hectares, the domain produces small-scale, natural expressions of Nebbiolo.

## Interesting facts

- The name Garzöl translates to 'bud' or 'sprout' in the local Valtellinese dialect.
- Vineyards are situated on extreme steep terraces, with some strips holding only a single row of vines.
- Total production across the entire 3-hectare estate is limited to roughly 10,000 bottles per year.

## Food pairing

Vibrant Alpine acidity and firm Nebbiolo tannins effortlessly cut through rich, buttery pasta dishes, game, and local cured meats, while mineral nuances highlight earthly wild mushroom flavors.

## Wine making process

The Nebbiolo grapes are harvested entirely by hand from high-elevation terraced plots. In the cellar, vinification is strictly non-interventional, relying on spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in neutral vessels. The wine matures in large neutral wooden casks to allow pure varietal and terroir expression, and is bottled unfined with minimal added sulfites.
