## About this wine

Domaine Pierre Frick is a pioneering estate located in Pfaffenheim, Alsace, managed by the Frick family who represents the 12th generation of winemakers. The estate has been a beacon of biodynamic viticulture, achieving Demeter certification in 1981. They focus on maintaining a living ecosystem in their vineyards, even returning to horse-plowing in 2013 to preserve soil health. Known for their uncompromising natural approach, they famously transitioned to stainless steel crown caps in 2002 to eliminate cork taint and ensure pristine, consistent aging for their wines.

## Interesting facts

- Domaine Pierre Frick has been certified biodynamic by Demeter since 1981, making them early pioneers of the movement in Alsace.
- In 2002, the estate completely replaced natural corks with stainless steel crown caps to prevent cork taint and oxidation.
- Since 2013, the estate has utilized horses to plow the vineyard soils, preventing compaction and promoting microbial life.

## Food pairing

The residual sweetness and pronounced aromatics of this Gewurztraminer make it an exceptional partner for spicy Asian cuisines, where the sugar tames the heat. Its rich body and vibrant acidity also cut through fatty dishes like traditional Alsatian pork stews and strong, washed-rind cheeses like Munster.

## Wine making process

This natural Gewurztraminer is crafted with zero commercial inputs. Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo spontaneous fermentation triggered exclusively by indigenous yeasts, with no chaptalization or acidification. The wine is aged on its fine lees for several months in large, century-old neutral oak casks (foudres). It is bottled with minimal filtration and without any added sulfites, preserving the purest expression of the grape and terroir.
