## About this wine

Remelluri Granja Gran Reserva 2014 is a red wine from the DOCa Rioja region, produced by Bodegas Remelluri. The blend is primarily Tempranillo, Garnacha, and Graciano, with a small percentage of other indigenous varieties. The estate is recognized as one of Rioja's first 'Château' style properties, with a history dating back to the 10th century. The modern winery was established in 1967 by Jaime Rodríguez Salís, father of the current custodians, Telmo and Amaia Rodríguez. The estate emphasizes rediscovering Rioja's viticultural history and a philosophy of 'The Future Lies in the Past'. The wine is made from old vines on the estate's highest elevation vineyards, representing the essence of the property. The 2014 vintage required meticulous grape selection due to challenging weather conditions.

## Interesting facts

- Estate history dates back to the 10th century.
- Vines average over 70 years old.
- Organic farming certified by ENEEK.
- Limited production of only 9,860 bottles.

## Food pairing

The wine's structure and tannins are well-suited to complement the richness of proteins like lamb and duck. The savory notes in the wine can echo earthy flavors in dishes like mushroom risotto or root vegetables, while the wine's acidity can cut through richer sauces and fatty meats.

## Wine making process

The Remelluri Granja Gran Reserva 2014 was produced using grapes from old vines. The winemaking process involved destemming and crushing whole clusters. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts took place in old, open-top foudres. Following fermentation, the wine was aged for approximately 30 months in various French oak barrels and foudres. Bottling occurred on May 25, 2017, and the wine was cellared at Remelluri until August 2022. The 2014 vintage harvest was conducted from October 12-24, with meticulous grape selection due to late rains.
