## About this wine

Heya Wines was founded in 2022 by Claudine Lteif and Michelle Chami in Northern Lebanon. The name Heya translates to she in Arabic, signifying the winery's core commitment to female empowerment in agricultural Lebanon. The estate operates with an all-women team across both vineyard work and winemaking, providing fair wages and professional recognition in a historically male-dominated industry. Kanz translates to treasure in Arabic. The grapes are grown organically in clay-limestone soils at an altitude of 400 meters in the mountains of Batroun, benefiting from cool Mediterranean sea breezes and low yield harvests.

## Interesting facts

- Kanz means treasure in Arabic, referring to intact whole-cluster grapes holding juice inside like hidden treasure.
- Heya means she in Arabic, reflecting the winery's mission of empowering an all-female vineyard and winery team.
- The bottle label artwork features unedited photographs of the female harvest team working in the vineyard.

## Food pairing

The light-to-medium body, vibrant acidity, and soft amphora-aged tannins make this wine exceptionally versatile with grilled meats, cured charcuterie, and savory Mediterranean dishes. A slight chill enhances its fresh fruity structure alongside rich, savory, or herbal flavors.

## Wine making process

The winemaking process utilizes 100% whole-cluster carbonic maceration, allowing intracellular fermentation to occur naturally inside unbroken berries. Fermentation is triggered spontaneously by wild indigenous yeasts without temperature manipulation. The wine is fermented and aged entirely in clay terracotta amphorae before being bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal added sulfur dioxide (<30 ppm).
