## About this wine

Jean Leon La Scala 2015 is a Gran Reserva red wine from the Penedès region of Catalonia, Spain, produced by Bodegas Jean Leon. The wine is a single-vineyard expression, named after Jean Leon's famous restaurant in Beverly Hills. Jean Leon, the founder, was a visionary who established the winery in 1963 with the aim of creating an exclusive wine. The winery is now owned by the Torres family. Jean Leon was a pioneer in Spain, being one of the first to produce a single-variety Cabernet Sauvignon and to receive the 'Vi de Finca' designation for its unique vineyard.

## Interesting facts

- Named after Jean Leon's legendary Beverly Hills restaurant.
- First winery in Spain to produce a single-variety Cabernet Sauvignon.
- The 'La Scala' vineyard was planted in 1963.
- Certified organic since the 2012 vintage.

## Food pairing

The wine's firm tannins and medium-high body are well-suited to complement the protein and fat in richer meats, softening the tannins and enhancing the savory flavors. Herbal notes in the wine can echo herbs used in cooking, while dark fruit characteristics can harmonize with fruit-based sauces.

## Wine making process

Jean Leon La Scala is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes sourced from the La Scala vineyard. The wine undergoes fermentation at 26°C, followed by malolactic fermentation. It is then aged in French oak barrels for a minimum of 24 months, and subsequently for at least two years in bottle. The winery is certified organic and emphasizes sustainable farming practices.
