## About this wine

Jean Vidérue Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a modern expression of the Southern Rhône's most famous appellation, developed by the Swedish importer Urban Wines AB. Sourced from selected vineyards in the northeastern commune of Courthézon, the wine is crafted in partnership with the historic Cellier des Princes cooperative. This collaboration aims to deliver an accessible, high-quality Châteauneuf-du-Pape that highlights the region's signature terroir. The vineyards feature classic sandy-clay soils mixed with alluvial gravels and galets roulés (rounded pebbles), which absorb daytime heat and radiate it back to the vines at night. The 2024 vintage was characterized by a challenging spring with low yields, which ultimately resulted in exceptional fruit concentration and a remarkably fresh, elegant profile.

## Interesting facts

- Aged entirely in concrete tanks with zero oak contact to preserve the pure, vibrant fruit expression of the Grenache grape.
- Sourced from the historic Cellier des Princes cooperative in the northeastern commune of Courthézon.
- The 2024 vintage saw extremely low yields of 24.9 hl/ha due to spring mildew, resulting in highly concentrated fruit.

## Food pairing

This full-bodied, high-alcohol red wine requires rich, savory dishes with sufficient protein and fat to soften its robust tannins. The wine's natural herbal and peppery notes harmonize beautifully with Provençal herbs, game meats, and slow-cooked stews, while its vibrant acidity cuts through rich potato gratins and mature cheeses.

## Wine making process

The winemaking process for Jean Vidérue focuses on preserving the pure, primary fruit characteristics of the Grenache grape. Grapes are 100% hand-harvested at optimal phenolic ripeness. Fermentation takes place under strict temperature control at 28°C to 30°C, extending over four to five weeks to ensure deep color extraction and structured tannins. Uniquely for Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which often undergoes extensive oak aging, this wine is aged entirely in concrete tanks for up to one year before bottling. This deliberate choice avoids any oak influence, allowing the natural peppery, herbal, and brambly qualities of the blend to shine through with clarity and freshness.
