## About this wine

Weingut Franz Keller is located in Oberbergen within the Kaiserstuhl region of Baden, Germany. Led by Fritz Keller and his son Friedrich, the estate adheres strictly to a Burgundian philosophy that emphasizes elegance, freshness, and low intervention. The Jechtinger Enselberg vineyard site features stony volcanic rock overlaid with fertile loess, situated on a west-facing slope overlooking the Rhine plain toward Alsace. High ventilation through the Burgundian Gate provides cool night air, preserving vibrant acidity and aromatic complexity. For the 2018 vintage, this single-vineyard bottling was classified as VDP.Großes Gewächs.

## Interesting facts

- The vineyard was planted in 1999 and 2003 exclusively with Dijon Burgundian Pinot Noir clones.
- Cellar operations rely on gravity flow instead of pumps to preserve fragile aromas during vinification.
- Cool winds from the Burgundian Gate blow across the Rhine plain to preserve freshness in the vines.

## Food pairing

The wine's bright acidity, finely grained tannins, and complex volcanic minerality complement rich wild game, duck, and savory mushroom dishes without dominating delicate flavours.

## Wine making process

Viticulture follows sustainable practices with low yields and meticulous manual harvesting. In the cellar, winemaking incorporates approximately 30 percent whole-cluster fermentation to add spicy structure and freshness. Fermentation is carried out with natural spontaneous yeasts using gravity-flow processing without mechanical pumps to protect delicate fruit aromatics. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barriques (approximately 40 percent new oak) before being bottled un-fined or lightly filtered.
