## About this wine

La Villana is an artisanal estate in Gradoli, Lazio, overlooking Lake Bolsena, founded in 2016 by American winemaker Joy Kull. After training in Italy with Le Coste, Kull fell in love with the region's volcanic soils and abandoned old vineyards, partnering with her local shepherd husband to restore ancient parcels across the area.

## Interesting facts

- Founded by American winemaker Joy Kull, who moved to Italy after interning with Le Coste.
- The whimsical label artwork features sheep illustrated by Jamison Odone, honoring Kull's shepherd husband.
- Vineyards are planted on volcanic ash and black sand soils overlooking Lake Bolsena.

## Food pairing

This vibrant natural white wine features elevated acidity, savory salinity, and subtle structure from skin maceration. It pairs exceptionally well with local sheep's milk cheeses, simple grilled seafood, herb-infused white meats, and roasted root vegetables.

## Wine making process

The 2024 vintage is made from 100% Procanico grown in volcanic ash and black sand soils. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with wild yeasts in fiberglass tanks following staggered skin maceration—4 days for purchased fruit and 7 days for estate old-vine parcels. The wine is blended in December, aged in fiberglass tanks, and bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with no added sulfites.
