## About this wine

The Pecchenino Langhe Barbera Quass 2019 is a 100% Barbera from the Langhe D.O.C. in Piedmont, Italy, specifically from a single vineyard in Dogliani. This wine is a signature bottling for Azienda Agricola Pecchenino, a family winery with a long history. The 'Quass' designation highlights its single-vineyard origin. The Pecchenino family's philosophy centers on respecting the land and its natural processes to express the unique terroir of their estate. The 2019 vintage benefited from a balanced ripening season in the Langhe.

## Interesting facts

- The 'Quass' name marks a special single-vineyard bottling, first produced in 1994.
- Pecchenino sees themselves as 'guardians of the territory'.
- The vineyard for Quass faces south-west, optimizing sun exposure.
- Vines are over 35 years old, contributing to wine complexity.

## Food pairing

The wine's full body and pronounced intensity are well-suited for richer dishes. Its fresh, high acidity cuts through the richness of meats and fatty components, while medium tannins complement protein, softening with each bite. The fruit-forward character can also bridge with slightly sweet elements in sauces or accompaniments.

## Wine making process

The Pecchenino Langhe Barbera Quass 2019 is produced from 100% Barbera grapes. The harvest is conducted by hand in small crates at the end of September. Following pressing, alcoholic fermentation occurs in steel tanks with repeated pumping over (repassings). A post-fermentation maceration with the skins follows. Malolactic fermentation takes place in steel vats. The wine is then aged in oak casks for a period, which can range from 12 months in oak casks to a mix of barrique and larger oak barrels.
