## About this wine

Domaine Marquis d'Angerville is an iconic estate based in Volnay, Burgundy. In the 1920s, Marquis Sem d'Angerville championed estate bottling to fight fraudulent wine blending in Beaune and played a crucial role in establishing France's AOC system. Today led by Guillaume d'Angerville and his daughter Margaux, the estate resurrected this classic Bourgogne Passetoutgrain blend from a tiny 0.3-hectare parcel in the lieu-dit Monpoulain in Volnay.

## Interesting facts

- Marquis Sem d'Angerville pioneered estate-bottling in 1920s Burgundy to protest corrupt merchant blending practices.
- The grapes come from a tiny 0.3-hectare single parcel named Monpoulain located in Volnay.
- Pinot Noir and Gamay are co-planted in the vineyard and co-fermented together in the cellar.
- Domaine Marquis d'Angerville has been certified organic and biodynamic since 2009.

## Food pairing

The lively acidity and soft, fine-grained tannins of this light-to-medium-bodied red make it remarkably versatile at the table. It shines alongside poultry, pork, charcuterie, and earthy vegetable dishes without overwhelming delicate flavors.

## Wine making process

Sourced from 30-year-old co-planted vines on clay-dominant soils, the Pinot Noir and Gamay grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted. Vinification takes place with native yeasts in open-top vats using gentle pump-overs to focus on aromatic finesse rather than heavy extraction. The wine is aged for approximately 12 months in neutral French oak barrels with zero new oak used, ensuring the fresh fruit profile remains pure.
