## About this wine

The Marsannay Rouge Cuvée Saint-Urbain from Domaine Jean Fournier is a 2022 vintage red wine from the AOC Marsannay in Burgundy, France. It is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes. This cuvée is a blend of fruit from several of the domaine's prime Marsannay vineyard sites, some of which are recognized for their potential Premier Cru quality. The name 'Saint-Urbain' refers to a local landmark. Domaine Jean Fournier has a long history in the region, with current management focused on organic farming and expressing the unique characteristics of the Marsannay terroir.

## Interesting facts

- Cuvée Saint-Urbain is named after a small tower behind the domaine.
- Vine age ranges from 10 to 30 years, with some parcels planted in the 1950s.
- The soils are a mix of clay-limestone with gravel.
- Ecocert certified organic farming since 2008.

## Food pairing

The wine's medium body and delicate tannins are well-suited to complement the protein in dishes like lamb and beef, while its bright acidity can cut through richer sauces. Earthy notes often found in Pinot Noir find a natural partner in mushroom-based dishes.

## Wine making process

The Marsannay Rouge Cuvée Saint-Urbain is produced using 100% Pinot Noir grapes. Approximately 33% whole bunches are included during fermentation, which takes place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks over about 15 days. Extraction is managed through moderate punch-downs and pump-overs. The wine undergoes aging for approximately 12 months in 600-liter demi-muid barrels, with 15% new oak, followed by a further 5 months in stainless steel tanks. Farming practices are organic, with manual harvests.
