## About this wine

Marto B.A.D. is crafted by Martin Wörner and his partner Alanna Lagamba in Flonheim, Rheinhessen. Martin took over his family farm in 2017 after training under natural wine icons Tom Lubbe at Domaine Matassa and Stefanie & Eduard Tscheppe-Eselböck at Gut Oggau. The wine's name stands for Bad Ass Dornfelder, subverting the grape's historical reputation as a cheap blending variety by utilizing 35-year-old vines from a single high-altitude parcel at 330 meters above sea level.

## Interesting facts

- The name B.A.D. stands for Bad Ass Dornfelder, challenging the grape's low-quality reputation.
- Grapes come from a single 0.5-hectare parcel at 330 meters elevation with 35-year-old vines.
- Only 1,600 bottles were produced for the 2023 vintage.

## Food pairing

This energetic, low-tannin natural red wine features high acidity and juicy dark fruit. It pairs wonderfully with earthy mushrooms, savory pork, duck, and charcuterie, where its vibrant acidity cuts through fat without overpowering delicate flavors.

## Wine making process

The 2023 harvest yielded tiny, concentrated berries that were dried on the vine by wind and sun. To maintain a fresh, mineral character and avoid heavy tannins, the grapes underwent direct pressing before spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts in stainless steel and neutral oak. The wine aged without lees stirring in a 5-year-old traditional 1,200-liter Stückfass barrel, bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with zero added sulfites.
