## About this wine

Château Megyer, located in Hungary's legendary Tokaj region, boasts heritage dating back to at least 1324. Classified as a First Growth in the historical 1772 Royal Classification under Empress Maria Theresa, the 110-hectare Megyer vineyard is situated on volcanic rhyolite tuff soils capped with forest clay. The estate is managed by the Laborde family, who also own the renowned Bordeaux estate Château Clinet in Pomerol. The site's cool, wind-swept microclimate preserves vibrant natural acidity in dry varietal bottlings.

## Interesting facts

- Megyer Hill was documented as a vineyard as early as 1324 in medieval royal charters.
- Formally ranked as a First Growth (Prima Classis) during the world's second vineyard classification in 1772.
- Managed by the Laborde family, owners of Pomerol's famous Château Clinet.

## Food pairing

High natural acidity cuts through rich, fatty meats like duck and pork belly, while subtle oak aging and mineral weight complement butter-based seafood and aged hard cheeses.

## Wine making process

Grapes were manually harvested from whole clusters across south-facing slopes. Following whole-cluster pressing, fermentation occurred under temperature control in stainless steel and 500-liter Zemplén Hungarian oak barrels. The wine aged on fine lees (sur lie) with regular stirring (battonage) for 5 to 6 months in a combination of new (approx. 50%) and neutral Hungarian oak barrels before bottling.
