## About this wine

The Snowden Melchior Kemper Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2018 marks a significant milestone as Snowden Vineyards' first single-varietal release of this grape, which was historically used as a blending component. The Melchior Kemper Vineyard, from which the wine originates, is named after a historical figure who owned the ranch in the late 1800s. Snowden Vineyards, a family-owned estate since 1955, is known for producing terroir-driven wines. Located in Napa Valley, the Melchior Kemper Vineyard is situated at an elevation of 800 feet. The 2018 vintage benefited from a calm growing season and a cooler spring, contributing to the wine's development.

## Food pairing

The wine's structure and fruit profile are well-suited to complement rich proteins. The tannins in the Cabernet Franc can soften and integrate with the fat and protein in meats, while its inherent fruit notes can echo or contrast with savory and slightly sweet elements in dishes.

## Wine making process

The Snowden Melchior Kemper Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2018 was produced using organic farming practices. Fermentation was carried out with wild, native yeasts. Following fermentation, the red wines are left unfined. The wine was subsequently aged for 17 months in French oak barrels, with 50% of the barrels being new. It was bottled in the spring of 2021. A total of 235 cases were produced.
