## About this wine

JOISEPH Natur Weingut was founded in 2015 by Richard Artner, Alex Kagl, and winemaker Luka Zeichmann in Jois, within Austria's Burgenland region. Working without initial cellar infrastructure, the team established a natural wine workshop centered on organic viticulture and minimal-intervention practices. The grapes for Piroska are grown on 20 to 40-year-old vines rooted in limestone and mica-schist soils along the lower slopes of the Leithaberg, overlooking Lake Neusiedl.

## Interesting facts

- The name Piroska derives from the Hungarian word for light red and is also the Hungarian name for Little Red Riding Hood.
- JOISEPH was founded in 2015 without cellars or tractors, using only hand shears and boots to craft natural wines.
- Piroska is co-fermented with a small fraction of directly pressed white grapes to add freshness and vibrant energy.

## Food pairing

As a light-bodied red wine with bright acidity and delicate tannins, Piroska pairs exceptionally well with lean meats, charcuterie, and savory vegetable dishes. Served chilled, its freshness cuts through fat without overpowering delicate proteins like poultry or pork.

## Wine making process

The 2025 Piroska is crafted from hand-harvested grapes subjected to low extraction techniques. Zweigelt undergoes two days of skin maceration, while Blaufränkisch receives a brief overnight skin contact. Directly pressed white grape varieties are co-fermented alongside the red grapes using spontaneous ambient yeasts in stainless steel tanks and old neutral oak casks. The wine is aged briefly in neutral vessels and bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal added sulfur.
