## About this wine

Poggio Terra, which translates to 'Hill of the Land', is located in the Monferrato region of Piedmont, Italy. Crafted by Signore Ariotti and his son Ricardo, the estate focuses on indigenous Barbera planted on marine-origin clay, sand, and limestone soils at 1,000 feet elevation. In Monferrato, Barbera occupies prime hillside sites, contrasting with neighboring regions where Nebbiolo predominates. The wine is presented in a 1.0-liter 'Party Liter' bottle intended for convivial, everyday sharing.

## Interesting facts

- Packaged in a 1.0-liter format designed as an accessible, convivial party bottle.
- The 2023 vintage marks the debut of official EU Organic certification on the bottle label.
- Winemaker Signore Ariotti is affectionately known locally as 'Old Man Barbera'.
- The estate vineyards sit on ancient marine-origin soil filled with sea fossils.

## Food pairing

The high, vibrant acidity and smooth, supple tannins of Barbera cut cleanly through rich fats in pork, cheese, and cured meats while harmonizing perfectly with acidic tomato sauces.

## Wine making process

Farmed using organic and biodynamic principles, the estate achieved official EU Organic certification starting with the 2023 vintage. Fermentation occurs spontaneously in traditional subterranean concrete tanks using a wild yeast Pied de Cuve. The wine is aged 70% in concrete tanks and 30% in neutral large oak casks (botti) to preserve crisp red fruit purity, bottled with minimal total sulfur addition.
