## About this wine

The Ratti Villa Pattono Barbera d’Asti Superiore 2020 is a red wine from the Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOCG appellation in Piedmont, Italy, produced by SOC. AGR. RATTI. The wine is named after the ancestral country villa of the Ratti family, continuing a tradition of producing Barbera from the grapes grown around the estate. Grandmother Cristina Vittoria Pattono produced a 'house wine' from these vines in the early 20th century, a practice Pietro Ratti sought to revive. This bottling comes from the Costigliole d'Asti area within the Monferrato zone, known for producing Barbera wines with notable character and structure. The Ratti family's winemaking philosophy emphasizes a classical approach, with a focus on expressing the unique qualities of their Piedmontese terroir.

## Wine making process

The Ratti Villa Pattono Barbera d’Asti Superiore is produced from destemmed and crushed Barbera grapes. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for about 12 days at 27°C. Malolactic fermentation begins in November. The wine is then aged for one year in French oak barrels. Barbera d'Asti Superiore requires a minimum of 14 months of aging, with at least 6 months in wooden barrels. The vineyards were planted in 1975 at an altitude of 250 meters, on sandy clay soils with a vine density of 5,000 vines per hectare. Grapes are hand-harvested.
