## About this wine

Maison Gustave Lorentz, founded in 1836 in the medieval village of Bergheim, is one of Alsace's most respected family-owned estates. Deeply rooted in the Haut-Rhin region, the winery has been a pioneer in sustainable viticulture, achieving full organic certification from Ecocert in 2012 for all of its family-owned vineyards. The estate focuses on expressing the unique clay-limestone terroirs of Bergheim, which provide a strong structural backbone and mineral complexity to their wines. This Riesling Réserve represents the classic, dry, and precise style that has defined the estate for generations.

## Interesting facts

- Maison Gustave Lorentz has been family-owned and operated for seven generations, dating back to 1836.
- The estate fully transitioned to 100% certified organic farming in 2012 across all 33 hectares of their land.
- The challenging 2024 vintage saw an 18% drop in regional yields, resulting in highly concentrated and precise fruit profiles.

## Food pairing

The high acidity and bone-dry profile of this Alsace Riesling cut through rich, fatty dishes like pork and cream-based sauces, while its clean citrus notes beautifully complement delicate seafood, sushi, and mildly spiced Asian cuisine.

## Wine making process

The 2024 vintage in Alsace was highly demanding, characterized by a wet spring and significant mildew pressure, followed by a warm August and a cool, damp September. This resulted in lower yields but highly concentrated fruit. The grapes were entirely hand-harvested starting in early September. Vinification began with a gentle, slow pressing of whole grapes in horizontal pneumatic presses. The juice underwent a 12-to-24 hour cold settling (debourbage) to separate natural impurities before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wine was aged on its fine lees in stainless steel to preserve its vibrant freshness, purity of fruit, and mineral character.
