## About this wine

Roca del Crit 2020 is a red wine from the Empordà DO in Catalonia, Spain, produced by Gallina de Piel. The project is led by David Seijas, a former sommelier at El Bulli, who aims to create wines that tell stories and respect their origin. The grapes are sourced from the Cap de Creus Natural Park, with a significant majority coming from Carignan vines over 80 years old planted on slate soils. The wine's name, 'Roca del Crit,' meaning 'the screaming rock,' is inspired by a personal anecdote of the winemaker.

## Food pairing

The wine's full body and concentrated fruit notes stand up to rich, protein-heavy dishes. The tannins complement the protein, softening with each bite, while the wine's herbal and spicy undertones can echo or contrast with the flavors of the food.

## Wine making process

Roca del Crit 2020 is crafted from Carignan and Grenache grapes. The Carignan, from old vines, is typically fermented and aged separately for around 10 months in used French oak barrels and sometimes oval foudres. The Grenache, from younger vines, may be fermented in stainless steel, with a portion including stems, and aged for a shorter period, potentially on its lees in French oak. The 2020 vintage received a Bronze medal at the International Wine Challenge and a score of 91 from Guía Peñín.
