## About this wine

Champagne Marguet, led by the visionary Benoît Marguet, is one of the most pioneering and spiritual houses in the Champagne region. Located in the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay, the estate has been certified biodynamic since 2013. Benoît's holistic approach treats the vineyards as a living ecosystem, utilizing aromatherapy, phytotherapy, and draught horses to plow the soils, completely avoiding heavy machinery. The 'Shaman' cuvée is Marguet's flagship release, representing a highly individualistic approach to Champagne. Rather than blending multiple vintages to achieve a standardized house style, Marguet highlights a single base year—in this case, the sun-drenched 2022 harvest—allowing the unique energy and climate of that season to express itself fully. Sourced entirely from elite Grand Cru plots in Ambonnay and Bouzy, this Rosé is highly unusual for its Chardonnay-dominant blend, offering a rare and intellectually engaging expression of Grand Cru terroir.

## Interesting facts

- The estate's vineyards are plowed entirely by draught horses to prevent soil compaction and preserve microbial life.
- Unlike most rosé Champagnes, Shaman Rosé is uniquely Chardonnay-dominant, blended with a smaller portion of Pinot Noir.
- Benoît Marguet uses aromatherapy and essential oils in the vineyards to naturally strengthen the vines and avoid chemicals.
- The '22' in Shaman 22 indicates that the wine is crafted primarily from the grapes of the 2022 harvest.

## Food pairing

As a bone-dry, structured, and highly vinous Brut Nature Rosé, this Champagne behaves more like a fine light red or structured white wine with bubbles. Its high acidity cuts through rich fats like duck, butter, and creamy textures, while its subtle phenolic grip and mineral salinity harmonize beautifully with umami-rich dishes like truffles, aged cheeses, and raw seafood.

## Wine making process

The winemaking process for Shaman 22 Rosé reflects Benoît Marguet's non-interventionist, natural philosophy. Grapes are hand-harvested from old vines averaging 40 years of age. Spontaneous fermentation is carried out parcel-by-parcel using only indigenous yeasts in neutral oak casks and wooden foudres, completely avoiding stainless steel. The wine undergoes primary aging on its lees for nine months in used oak barrels. It is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without cold stabilization. Secondary bottle fermentation on the lees lasts between 24 to 30 months. Disgorgement took place in spring 2025 with zero dosage (Brut Nature), preserving the raw, pristine energy of the fruit. No sulfur dioxide was added during the vinification or bottling processes, resulting in an exceptionally low total sulfite level.
