## About this wine

Tenuta Terre Darrigo is a historic volcanic estate situated on the northeastern slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, recently acquired by the prestigious Tuscan wine group Bacci Wines. Located in the municipality of Linguaglossa, the vineyards are planted on centuries-old, hand-built traditional lava stone terraces at high altitudes between 650 and 700 meters. The estate benefits from a unique microclimate suspended between the cool alpine winds of Etna's peak and maritime drafts from the Taormina sea. Under the guidance of Marco Bacci and local winemaker Renato Raciti, the estate is farmed organically, capturing the raw energy and distinct volcanic terroir of this legendary region.

## Interesting facts

- The vineyards are planted on centuries-old hand-built terraces made of 'lava millenaria'—thousands-of-years-old black volcanic lava fragments.
- Acquired in 2022 by Bacci Wines, famous for elite Tuscan estates like Castello di Bossi, marking their first venture into Sicilian terroir.
- To preserve the pure volcanic energy of the grapes, this Etna Rosso is aged entirely in stainless steel, completely avoiding oak wood.

## Food pairing

The high acidity and firm, chalky tannins of Nerello Mascalese make it an exceptional partner for rich, savory meats and earthy, tomato-based dishes. The wine's bright red fruit and mineral drive cut through the fat of slow-roasted pork or duck, while its herbal undertones complement wild mushrooms and classic Sicilian pasta dishes like Cavatelli alla Norma.

## Wine making process

The winemaking process at Tenuta Terre Darrigo is designed to preserve the pure, unadulterated expression of Etna's volcanic terroir. The grapes, primarily Nerello Mascalese, are grown organically and harvested by hand. In the modern, gravity-fed winery, fermentation and maturation take place entirely in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. To maintain the vibrant fruit and mineral characteristics of the volcanic soils, the estate avoids any oak aging for this Etna Rosso, ensuring a clean, precise, and terroir-driven profile.
