## About this wine

Weingut Thanisch, located in the historic village of Lieser in the Middle Mosel, traces its winemaking roots back to 1648. Since 2001, Jörg Thanisch has managed the family estate alongside his wife Petra and daughter Sophia, cultivating eight hectares of steep-slope vineyards. This estate is distinct from the Bernkastel-based estate of a similar name. While many quality-focused producers reserve estate-grown fruit exclusively for standard bottles, Thanisch utilizes their slate-rich estate vineyards to produce this high-quality dry Riesling in a generous 1-liter format, offering an authentic taste of the Mosel for everyday enjoyment.

## Interesting facts

- The Thanisch family has been crafting wine in the Mosel village of Lieser since 1648.
- This wine is bottled in a generous 1-liter format, a traditional German size for high-quality, everyday estate wines.
- The vineyards are planted on steep slopes of blue and gray Devonian slate, which naturally regulates temperature by storing daytime heat.

## Food pairing

This dry Riesling's high acidity and crisp profile make it an exceptional palate cleanser. It cuts through the richness of light seafood and poultry dishes while complementing fresh herbs and citrus-based dressings. The subtle mineral undertones also pair beautifully with fresh, vegetable-forward dishes and light Asian preparations.

## Wine making process

The grapes are selectively harvested by hand from steep-slope vineyards surrounding Lieser. Following a gentle crushing process, the must is settled slowly to clarify naturally without heavy fining agents. Fermentation takes place at controlled cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fresh primary fruit esters and varietal characteristics of Riesling. The wine is then aged on its fine lees in stainless steel for several months to build structural balance and subtle complexity before being bottled under a Stelvin screw cap.
