## About this wine

Bodegas R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia is the oldest winery in Haro and one of the most iconic traditional producers in Rioja. Founded in 1877 by Don Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta, the winery remains family-owned and committed to historic 19th-century techniques. The flagship Viña Tondonia vineyard stretches along the Ebro River in Rioja Alta, planted on limestone-rich alluvial soils with old vines averaging over 60 years of age.

## Interesting facts

- Aged for six years in oak barrels and matured for years in cellars before commercial release.
- The estate operates its own full-time cooperage to build and repair all oak barrels in-house.
- The flagship Viña Tondonia vineyard is shaped like an amphitheater along the Ebro River.

## Food pairing

This dry, structured white wine pairs exceptionally well with rich seafood, umami-rich mushroom dishes, and roasted poultry. High natural acidity cuts through rich sauces and oily fish, while extensive cellar aging complements mature cheeses and earthy flavors.

## Wine making process

Grapes are hand-harvested from low-yielding estate vines and fermented in neutral oak vats using native yeasts without temperature control. The wine ages for six years in neutral American oak barrels crafted in the winery's own cooperage, undergoing twice-yearly manual rackings. Clarified traditionally with fresh egg whites and bottled without filtration, the wine undergoes extensive bottle aging in subterranean cellars before release.
