## About this wine

Domaine Marquis d'Angerville is an iconic Volnay estate with roots dating back to 1804. The family played a pivotal role in Burgundy's history when Sem d'Angerville championed estate-bottling in the 1920s to guarantee authenticity, later co-founding the INAO appellation system. Today managed by Guillaume d'Angerville and his daughter Margot, the estate practices biodynamic viticulture across top-tier Premier Cru sites in Volnay. The 2024 vintage represents a rare assemblage of six Premier Cru parcels blended together due to severe spring frost losses.

## Interesting facts

- Sem d'Angerville was an early pioneer of estate bottling in Burgundy and co-founded France's INAO system.
- Due to severe 2024 spring frosts, fruit from six Premier Cru sites was combined into a single rare cuvée.
- The estate switched to biodynamic viticulture after Guillaume d'Angerville met Anne-Claude Leflaive.

## Food pairing

Volnay's refined structure, medium body, and vibrant acidity call for elegant game, duck, or tender lamb dishes. Earthy elements like wild mushrooms and truffle complement the stony limestone terroir of the village without overpowering the wine's delicate frame.

## Wine making process

Grapes are harvested by hand with rigorous sorting before being 100% destemmed. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts in open-top vats after a brief cold maceration. Extraction is kept very gentle, relying primarily on pumping over (remontage) to preserve elegance. The wine ages in subterranean cellars in French oak barrels (approximately 20% new oak) for 15 to 18 months before being assembled in stainless steel tanks and bottled without fining or filtration.
