## About this wine

The Logan Weemala Pinot Noir 2023 is a red wine from Australia's Central Ranges, produced by Logan Wines. The Weemala series, named after an Aboriginal word for 'good view', is known for its quirky and elegant style. The labels are adorned with whimsical illustrations of local Mudgee birds. Logan Wines, a family-owned estate founded in 1997, seeks to marry the fruit-forward nature of Australian wines with European finesse. The grapes for this Pinot Noir are sourced from the Orange region in New South Wales, situated at high altitudes on volcanic soils, contributing to the wine's distinctive profile. The 2023 vintage has been recognized with a Gold award at the Sakura Awards.

## Food pairing

The wine's bright acidity and medium tannins make it versatile. Acidity cuts through the richness of duck and pork, while tannins complement the protein in meat and fish. Earthy notes in dishes like mushroom risotto can echo subtle complexities in the wine.

## Wine making process

The Logan Weemala Pinot Noir 2023 is produced using a combination of winemaking techniques. A portion of the grape must is fermented in small open fermenters with twice-daily plunging, while the rest is processed in larger rotary fermenters. Twenty percent of the fruit is fermented with whole bunches, and a small amount undergoes carbonic maceration. Following fermentation, 20% of the wine is aged in French puncheon oak barrels, with the remainder maturing in stainless steel tanks. The grapes are harvested between late February and mid-March.
