## About this wine

Weingut Mayer am Pfarrplatz, dating back to 1683, is one of Vienna's most historic and iconic wine estates. Located in the 19th district of Heiligenstadt, its landmark-protected manor house is famously known as the Beethovenhaus, where Ludwig van Beethoven lived in 1817 and worked on his 9th Symphony. The estate is a champion of the traditional Wiener Gemischter Satz, proving that this unique field blend can produce highly complex, precise, and world-class white wines.

## Interesting facts

- Ludwig van Beethoven lived at the winery's historic manor house in 1817 while working on his monumental 9th Symphony.
- Unlike a typical blend, a Gemischter Satz must be grown, harvested, and co-fermented together from the exact same vineyard.
- The estate is certified sustainable by both Sustainable Austria and Green Care Austria.

## Food pairing

This crisp, high-acid white wine cuts beautifully through the rich, fried textures of classic Viennese dishes like Wiener Schnitzel and Backhendl. Its vibrant minerality and stone fruit notes complement delicate freshwater fish, while its herbal undertones pair seamlessly with fresh spring vegetables and white asparagus.

## Wine making process

This wine is a traditional field blend where the grape varieties (Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Rotgipfler, and Zierfandler) are grown together in the same vineyard, harvested collectively on the same day, and co-fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. It is aged on the fine lees for approximately three months in stainless steel to preserve its vibrant freshness, fruit purity, and mineral tension without any oak influence.
