## About this wine

Zengarello Barolo DOCG is a collaborative project initiated by the Swedish importer Urban Wines AB, working closely with local growers and winemakers in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy. The brand's philosophy centers on demystifying fine wine, offering an authentic and accessible expression of Barolo without the typical pretension or high price tag. Grapes are sourced from small, family-owned vineyards across some of the most prestigious communes in the Barolo appellation, including La Morra, Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d'Alba, and Monforte d'Alba. This multi-commune blend captures a comprehensive snapshot of the Langhe's unique terroir, combining the elegance of La Morra with the structure of Serralunga.

## Interesting facts

- Zengarello is a collaboration between Swedish importer Urban Wines AB and small, traditional family growers across Barolo's top communes.
- The wine is aged for 26 months in large 800-liter neutral oak casks (botti) to preserve the delicate floral character of Nebbiolo.
- Despite a historically hot and dry 2022 growing season, the Nebbiolo grapes showed incredible resilience, yielding highly elegant wines.

## Food pairing

This classic Barolo demands rich, savory dishes with high protein and fat content to soften its powerful, tightly wound tannins. The high acidity of the wine cuts through rich sauces and fatty meats, cleansing the palate. Earthy components like mushrooms and black truffles mirror the complex, forest-floor aromatics of aged Nebbiolo, creating a harmonious and deeply savory dining experience.

## Wine making process

The winemaking process for Zengarello Barolo DOCG respects traditional Piedmontese methods. Grapes are 100% hand-harvested from selected plots characterized by clay-marl, sandstone, and limestone soils. Following fermentation, the wine undergoes an extensive aging regimen to meet strict DOCG regulations. It is aged for 26 months in large, neutral oak casks (botti) of 800 liters capacity. This large wood format is deliberately chosen to minimize aggressive oak influence, allowing the natural characteristics of the Nebbiolo grape to shine through without being overpowered by heavy vanilla or wood tannins. The wine is bottled with a natural cork closure.
